The Essay & Statement Intensive

Your story.
Thoughtfully developed.

A focused engagement with your Ivy Star advisor, from exploring the ideas that matter to refining the words that express them. For college, law school, and graduate applicants.

The foundation

Before the writing,
the understanding.

An effective statement reveals how you think, what has shaped you, and where you hope to go.

We begin by getting to know your experiences and the questions behind your application. Through conversation and close reading, your advisor helps you identify a direction with substance, then develop it into a clear and distinctive piece of writing.

You can begin with a blank page, several possible ideas, or an existing draft. The work is shaped around your starting point, your prompt, and the time available.

Two paths. Individual attention.

A statement suited
to your next step.

The purpose of the writing changes with the application. Our guidance reflects the audience, the prompt, and the case you need to make.

College applications

College Essay Intensive

Develop a personal statement that gives an admissions reader a fuller understanding of you. Explore meaningful experiences, find a narrative direction, and refine your draft with individual feedback on structure, detail, and expression.

Law & graduate applications

Statement Intensive

Articulate the experience, intellectual interests, and ambitions behind your next degree. Work on one personal statement or statement of purpose, with attention to the expectations of your chosen program.

The process

Close attention,
at every stage.

01 · Exploration

Discuss your experiences, interests, and motivations. Your advisor asks questions that help you discover the ideas worth developing and choose a direction.

02 · Development

Give your ideas a structure and write your first draft. We guide you toward specific details and a clear purpose, with room for your thinking to evolve.

03 · Revision

Refine the essay through discussion and written feedback. We work from the larger narrative to individual paragraphs and sentences, explaining what to strengthen and why.

04 · Final reading

Review the statement for clarity, coherence, and expression. We identify final adjustments for you to make before submission.

Your voice, throughout

Writing that reflects
your own thinking.

You remain the author. Your advisor brings perspective, questions, and careful editorial judgment.

We help you decide what to develop, where to be more specific, and what the reader still needs to understand. Every revision should bring the statement closer to what you mean to say.

I had rewritten my Common App essay over and over and was getting nowhere. Within our first sessions, I finally understood what story I wanted to tell. The feedback was specific, practical and never tried to make the essay sound overly polished or artificial. The final version sounded more like me than any of my earlier drafts.Student, Common App Personal Statement Intensive

Your engagement

A considered scope.
A clear way forward.

During your consultation, we discuss your application, current ideas or draft, and submission deadline. We then confirm the scope of the engagement, the schedule for meetings and feedback, and the fee before work begins.

The intensive covers one college personal statement, law school personal statement, or graduate statement of purpose. Additional versions and other application materials are agreed separately.
